Dairy industry is identified to produce crores of litres of milk everyday in India.

But, did you ever know how the milk is made?

There were instances earlier that informed that dairy industry is involved in a lot of adulteration activities as follows:

  • Artificial insemination of milk from the cow
  • It is colored/ artificially made and supplied
  • The skin of cows is misused for making products that you never know

Here is one video that was trending a day ago showing how milk in the dairy industry is made.

Source: Viral Videos

It did shock many dairy product consumers! You could be one among them too.

Did you note the following?

  • GIDC, Bharuch has a relation to this milk processing method
  • Industrial cutting oil when mixed to water produces milk. Wait, remember that industrial cutting oil is not for the body but for the machineries. Imagine how unhealthy and unethical this should be!
  • When this milk is kept next to original, unadulterated milk, we bet that you cannot differentiate.

Though this has been happening since years, when are the dairy product consumers going to voice out and stand against this adulteration?

According to WHO, consumption of this form of milk can put over 85% of the consumers at stake by exposing them to cancer and other chronic ailments.

Wake up! Turn vegan! This is the right chance!! Prepare your own milk!

“One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.” ~ Luciano Pavarotti

What a brilliant thought!

Yet how often do we pay attention to what we actually eat?

When we think about food and nutrition in general, the thoughts that come to our mind as vegans are carbohydrates, proteins, fats. This is common knowledge known to most educated people.

As Indians, our general upbringing is to consume a portion of rice / roti, some lentils in the form of dal / sambar and a side dish / curry which is usually a salad / vegetable.

We rarely talk about including fruits/nuts and seeds as a part of our daily diet.

While the above foods do take care of most of our major nutritional requirements – a lot of times we end up with vitamin and mineral deficiencies. As a result, we end up taking supplements.

Related: Vegan Vs Vegetarian – Which One To Choose?

In today’s day and age, with a high amount of processing, the nutritional value of foods has reduced significantly and while we do get high energy / high protein / high fat foods, the holistic nutritional aspects are further neglected.

I am often asked by people, as a vegan where do I get my nutrition from? Don’t I get bored eating the same stuff every day?

As a health and fitness enthusiast, I follow a Whole Foods Plant-based diet (WFPB). It is therefore essential that I have foods from all the food groups – cereals, pulses, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds and Water. The variety I get to enjoy is phenomenal.

Irrespective of your vocation / lifestyle, from my personal experience, I think it is imperative to eat foods from the below food groups on a regular basis –

vegan-vegantomorrow

Cereals

Whole grains in the form of brown rice / red rice / millets like ragi, jowar, bajra; rotis made from whole wheat unrefined flour, cracked wheat (daliya), oats etc

Pulses and legumes

Whole green gram / black gram / red gram / sprouts like chick peas / cow peas etc and legumes like green peas / beans etc

Leafy greens

Spinach, amaranth, fenugreek (methi), mint (pudina), coriander, cabbage etc

Vegetables

Capsicum, pumpkin, onions, colocasia, green banana, sweet potato,

Fruits

Banana, apple, orange, pear, pomegranate, papaya, tomato etc

Water is an essential part of nutrition. While water by itself does not provide any nutritional benefit directly, it is critical for most metabolic processes in the body.

I also believe that nature intended us to eat what is relevant for the particular climate in the particular region. Therefore, try and eat foods that are local and seasonal.

With a little thought being put as to what goes into our body, we can ensure that we lead a healthy and satiating life on a daily basis.

“The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition.”  ~Thomas Edison

Let us strive to be preventive in our approach to health.

You can see a lot of pet care tips on the web. But, how many of them have been eco friendly and safe? Many of the pet parents prefer fipronil sprays and tick injections but every treatment starts from home. Did you know you can make the repellant right at your home?

pet care ticks

Vegan Tomorrow is introducing a series of home remedies to different healthcare issues faced by animals.

What is even interesting is that everything can be made at home, affordable, eco friendly and vegan.

This article presents you 2 tick repellants for dogs. Try them and tell us if you like it.

Tick Repellant Pet Care Tip 1: Vinegar Spray

Take a spray bottle

Add a cup of water to the bottle

Mix 4 tablespoons of white/distilled vinegar to water

Spray only on the places where you find ticks!

This spray is effective because ticks are allergic to the smell of vinegar and do not wish to come back to your dog again.

Note: Do not let your dog drink vinegar! Never apply directly to your dog’s skin.

Tip: Regular Combing

Ticks love to attach to the furs that are not maintained. If your dog has been affected with ticks, comb the fur twice a day.

Tick Repellant Pet Care Tip 2: Neem Oil Spray

You can either take some neem oil on your palm, rub and apply directly on the ticks or add 4 tablespoons of neem oil to a cup of water. If there are more ticks, you can increase the quantity of neem oil.

Note that neem oil is safe and does not cause itching. Your pet care tip should never cause problems to your dog.

Ensure that the oil has diluted well in water.

It is important to note that essential oils are aromatic and can cause suffocation, if added too much. You may have to avoid usage of essential oils to get your dog rid of ticks.

There are some more easy pet care methods when your pet has ticks.

  • Use flea comb frequently
  • Vacuum your space on a regular basis
  • Ensure your dog is clean and surroundings are neat. Pet bed has to be washed regularly.
  • Do not choose tick repellants that contain organophosphates.

Pet care has always been easier when pet parents show utmost care in the choice of right medicine to the animals.

Vegan travel has always been a nightmare to many due to lack of cross-cultural information and vegan support group data insufficiency around the world.

When Sowmya from Vegan Tomorrow recently picked up a conversation about vegan travel tips in a Facebook group, the response was amazing. Abishek Ramesh was one of the first few to volunteer to enable his fellow vegans to learn that traveling as a vegan isn’t a nightmare anymore.

We then decided to pose a number of questions on the behalf of vegans to him and here you go to learn what he answered.

When did you go vegan and where did you travel post the transition?

I went completely vegan on Jan 1, 2016 and it was truly a great decision that I am proud of.

Post my hearty transition, I visited a number of countries such as Netherlands, France, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, Sweden, Latvia, Estonia, Russia. I usually go on a 3-4 week trip twice a year and I have never found my travel difficult.

abishek vegan travel

Oh, the list is exhaustive. As you traveled a number of place, how was the vegan community there? What were the challenges you faced?

Well, I should inform that vegan travel was made simpler because of the progressive culture throughout the world. My primary challenge was to read and understand the ingredients since most of them were in local languages. But, I did have many benefits too 😉

Most of the European countries have progressive vegan products that can’t be found in India or USA. And something that motivated me further is the availability of loads of fruits and vegetables in Latin American countries that were visually appealing and appeared to be a heaven to me.

We observe that the global culture is welcoming veganism. Isn’t it?

Of course! Perhaps, there were supermarkets in Europe that had dedicated sections comprising of vegan products. If you know the local language a bit, you can bargain though.

I would also like to add that many restaurants are keen to veganize foods based on request. So, we should never be hesitant to request.

Does that mean we can happily travel without worrying about the availability of local vegan foods?

I would say YES. I usually carry only my passport, phone, personal hygiene items and few clothes. I never worry about the availability as I always do the research of culture, food and ingredients (in local language) before I leave. That makes my vegan travel wonderful!

Do you have any special tip to offer to our readers?

  • Never miss to do your research beforehand. It can save your money and add relief.
  • Stay in a place that is accessible to necessary amenities.
  • Learn the local language for words like no milk, vegan, no meat, etc.
  • Use Happycow portal. It is a great resource to guide you on local vegan restaurants.

Have you had any extraordinary vegan food that you would like to share with us?

If at all you hop in at Amsterdam, do not miss the gluten-free space cakes. In addition to food, meet the local vegan community. You can have some extraordinary experiences 🙂

Did you know avocados are must have if you are leading a vegan lifestyle?

Avocados stand as fiber rich and vitamin rich fruits that you can notice in cooler regions in the world. However, avocados are packaged today and sold by supermarkets. They are not just used to eat but serve as a wonderful source to create several beauty products.

Many of us wanted to lead an eco-friendly lifestyle but do not know how.

If you have recently turned vegan, here are 3 tips to use avocados.

Before we begin to create our beauty products, purchase your avocados first.

Let’s start.

1. Avocado Face Mask

Does your face have wrinkles? Do you need a flawless skin? Do you wish to prove your skin is the testimony of your vegan lifestyle? Want to look younger? Avocado face mask is at your help.

Cut avocado into two. Take out the mush with a fork and start applying to your face. Leave it for 10 minutes. It begins to dry. Wash your face after 30 minutes.

Repeat this once in 3 days and see the change ! Don’t blame Vegan Tomorrow if others couldn’t recognize you since you look younger.

Note:

Choose ripe avocados.

Test it on your hand before you apply it to your face.

Apply to your face only as per the need. Do not over-apply.

Comb your hair and take few drops of avocado oil.

Apply gently to your hair strips and massage on the scalp.

Do it regularly for at least 15 days.

You can see your scalp getting stronger and your hair is free from dandruff.

What else? Grow thicker and longer!

3. Avocado body lotion

So, you had purchased avocados and avocado oil. Here is one quick solution to revitalize your skin and feel fresh and free from suntan.

Take the mush from ripe avocado and mix few drops of avocado oil to it.

Blend them.

Apply to your skin (especially the exposed parts, like your heels, palms, elbows) and let it dry.

Alternatively, you can use this combo while you bathe and wash it off.

If you have read till now, you have a bonus tip since you adopted a vegan lifestyle.

Adopting a vegan lifestyle is an effective, yet a cautious transition as it impacts many lives.

Dianne Padayachee has recently turned 40 years and has had a history of multiple medical complications. She has been on medicines for so long that she had side effects and became hopeless. Going vegan has changed her life.

Vegan Tomorrow conversed with Dianne to understand her story on reason behind going vegan.

Tell us about your health complications

I have had a long history of endometriosis which further led to numerous complications like irregular heartbeat, epilepsy, high blood pressure and chronic pain.

It did not stop there. I underwent over 11 surgeries and was informed that I could not conceive anymore. It put me to a state of depression that I gained weight and my lifestyle worsened.

Oops, what made you to go vegan?

Well, I had stomach infection earlier this year and doctors then informed me that my intestines and bowels were bleeding due to ulcer. Over medication, thanks to surgeries, has made me face this side effect. Finally, I was discharged after quite sometime and I had to happily return home and relax.

Related:

Here is the turning point in my life:

My husband and I were having meat and watching a documentary titled ‘What the health‘.

The documentary has truly ignited our minds and that was when we thought plant based diet is superior to other forms of diet.

So, did you turn vegan immediately?

I did transition slowly but heartily. I conducted lots of research to get the facts right before I follow and advocate vegan lifestyle. Since I was on medication, I need to take care of my health as well.

I was urging my physician to keep me rid of tablets and she advised a b12 and multivitamin. In just 6 months, I could see a progress in my health status. I was a vegan on and off in the first 6 months but now I am entirely a vegan.

What was your typical diet pattern?

I was too conscious in consuming the right plant based food to heal my body as well as mind. My diet does not contain soy products and processed foods due to epilepsy. Here is what I followed:

Breakfast: Fruit and vegetable smoothies blended with ginger, turmeric, hemp seeds and flax seeds / oatmeal with fruit and sunflower and pumpkin seeds

Lunch and dinner: Salads typically comprising of avocado, pineapple and some yummy dressing.

To enrich my vegan protein intake, I consumed quinoa salad, roasted veggies, stir fried vegetables, beans and lentils.

On top of all these, adequate water and exercise helped me boost my health further.

I had another benefit due to this vegan diet. I lost 16kgs total in 6 months and have become healthier.

dianne vegan lifestyle

Tell us how vegan lifestyle has impacted you

I assumed it to be a tough transition but I was enjoying throughout.

I started to lead a vegan lifestyle for my health benefit but I came to know that this life can eliminate the agony faced by other animals.

To be even precise, I have never felt better in terms of mind, body and soul until I turned vegan.

Do you have anything inspiring to add further?

I am not special, just one among many facing a simular situation. We need to rightly use this life of excess. I always get inspired by this quote – eat to live and not live to eat. I would advise everyone to eat the right one to live and let other lives live too.

Going vegan is as easy as 1-2-3.

Manjula Ganesan is a Chennai based animal and vegan activist who is keen about animal liberation and vegan lifestyle. As Vegan Tomorrow started to converse with her, she began with a quote by Thiruvalluvar:

“கொல்லான் புலாலை மறுத்தானைக் கைகூப்பி

எல்லா உயிருந் தொழும்”

The quote ideally insists to refrain from killing a life to feed the other and treat every life equally.

When and how did you become a vegan?

It has been two years since I became a vegan. Perhaps, becoming vegan was never in my bucket list until I educated myself with a lot of videos about animal cruelty and the need to spread compassion to other living beings.

How easy was going vegan?

Certainly, it was not an easy task to go vegan. Something that you had practiced for decades are undergoing a major transformation but I was happy about the transition.

The first thing that I did as a part of going vegan is to switch to vegan diet plan.

Nevertheless, vegans can eat anything plant based but the knowledge to gain access to such foods took time.

The second thing that I did was to spread the “BEHIND THE SCENES ANIMAL CRUELTY” videos to as many people as possible.

going vegan manjula

While some already knew and were in their transition stages, majority of them were appalled about the media. They never knew that they have been contributing to animal cruelty and environmental degradation so long.

The third thing that I followed was to be a part of vegan activism groups to exchange ideas, views and educate more people.

Tell us why you chose to go vegan

There are just 3 reasons that I like to cite:

Number 1: To end animal cruelty

A cow is harmed and separated from the calf to obtain milk and supply it to humans. Lot of animals are tortured and put to a painful death so humans can make leather accessories out of them. There are still lot more to quote. I have spent sleepless nights thinking how each person is contributing to the cruelty even without the knowledge.

As I am also an animal rescuer, I also realize that animals do have feelings which many of the people do not understand. The gratitude that an animal has on us should never be misused or harmed.

Number 2: To conserve the planet

It is noted that 1 serving of beef consumes about 1200 gallons of water. That’s huge. By going vegan, I am saving thousands of gallons of water. The carbon footprint is effectively managed and I transfer a rich legacy to my upcoming generations.

I do not want the future generations of this world to suffer without water, without land and without air.

Number 3: For a better health

I have had ulcer and other health issues and my parents were skeptical if the switch over to vegan diet plan might still worsen. However, the results proved wrong. The peanut yoghurt and plant based milk have cured my health problems and kept me fit at all times.

Before and after:

Before After
I have been addicted to dairy products. I live a life with negligent value of dairy products.
I followed a poor lifestyle that worsened my health. After going vegan, I follow a rich lifestyle that I am proud of and I am hale and healthy.
I was one in a million to lead a life. I stay unique as I behave responsibly and cautious about my choices. I am indeed glad that I do not misuse other lives for my personal pleasure.

Going vegan is the best decision I have taken in my life. I would also encourage more people to go vegan. This can save you and not just you! It saves every life!

Happy life vs guilty life – Which one would you choose? Happy life, isn’t it? That is how you can differentiate between vegan vs vegetarian.

The best way to tell you about vegan vs vegetarian is that vegetarian is a diet form whereas veganism is a lifestyle. Since ages, we have been co-existing with fellow living beings and our ancestors have been following healthy and compassionate lifestyles. With the rapid change in human evolution, people have failed to realize the importance of being compassionate.

The concept of co-existence has vanished and people have exploited fellow living beings in as many ways as possible. Every reader, including YOU, would have contributed to this exploitation by some means. The best definition of raw veganism is the idea to put an end to the exploitation of fellow living beings such as animals, birds, and reptiles for the human greed. Raw veganism discusses more on a lifestyle towards social justice.

The future of the world is VEGANISM.

While many claim that vegan is a form of vegetarian diet, it is important to note that there are several aspects to it. Raw veganism insists compassionate treatment of animals, ethical choice of day to day products including food and clothing and a way to protect our environment.

The commonly known difference between vegan and vegetarian is that vegetarians exclude animal flesh in their food consumption pattern while vegans exclude any activity that entertains misuse of animals. In other words, veganism encourages exclusion of dairy, honey, animal flesh, products tested on animals and misuse of animals.

If you are a non-vegetarian or a vegetarian eater, here is something that you should pay attention to:

– Every creature in this world has evolved just like YOU. None has the right to kill one to please the other. Hence, raw veganism presents a guilt-free lifestyle where every person can consume healthy and natural foods when they need to.

– Future generations wanted to witness the same elephants, dogs, sheep and every animal/ bird that you see today. Do not make them extinct for your self-satisfaction. Your contribution today can prevent the other creatures from going extinct.

– As you adopt a vegan lifestyle, you indirectly put an end to ill-treatment of animals in circuses, races, and zoos.

Did you know that the cow’s milk that you drink today is not 100% pure?

The cattle feed formula today is adulterated to the extent that the milk is filled with chemicals.

Did you know that you are drinking oxytocin?

One in 5 farmers injects female cows with oxytocin to produce more cows. 4 out of 5 farmers abandon their cows or provide them to a slaughterhouse when the milk supply is stopped. Isn’t it cruel to the cow as well as to you to consume chemicals?

going vegan

Perhaps, if you had to think of vegan vs vegetarian, a responsible citizen should certainly think of going vegan. This can save you, your surroundings and your planet. What more?

Choose a lifestyle that keeps you and your upcoming generations guilt free! Go vegan today!!
